Is it advised to use a lens protector on my new iPhone 14 Pro Max?

I have owned iphones since 2010. I have not worried about camera lens protection in the past. But... now I splurged and purchased the new 14 Pro Max. I have been trying to figure out if I should have a lens protector. I have the Otter clear phone case (no lens protection) and screen protector but no protection for the camera. I am very careful and keep my phone in a clean pocket and have rarely dropped a phone. Some say a protector will diminish the photo/videos, others don't. I wish they would make a removable lens cap similar to a camera lens cap to remove only when using the camera, but I don't see anything like that out there. What is the verdict? Do lens protectors diminish photo/video quality?
