Otherwise you restore from your backup if you have one and weren't syncing them to the cloud.

That won't help with the recovery of the text message, that is a new ios 16 feature and since it was deleted before then you'll need to restore from backup.

2. I have a backup to my computer from a week ago. Is there a way to just restore messages. I would do that to my phone.

Are you on ios 16? That feature might not be available for all phones.
