Phone call reverting back to call log

When making a call from favorites or call log and you end the call as the other party is ending the call you end up hitting and calling someone else. Is there no way to make the call

end and revert to the Home Screen?? So annoying to hit someone else’s number on the call log because I’m hitting the end button but whoever I’m talking to is quicker and I end up hitting and calling someone else. I have to explain each time. It’s enough to make me want to switch phones
