Only purchase direct from Apple, an Apple Authorized Reseller, or from a trusted third party vendor. Amazon is not a trustworthy vendor as they allow many disreputable vendors to use their marketplace and those vendors tend to sell very low quality and even fake products. The same thing happens with most online vendors allowing third party sellers to extend their marketplace to imitate Amazon.

You can take the charger to Apple to see if they can tell you if it is authenticate. If in doubt about it, don't use it and purchase one from a reputable vendor.
