new iphone 14 pro max purchased from apple - locked or unlocked?

Hello. I purchased an iphone 14 pro max. It is being shipped now from Apple. My current phone is an iphone 11 bought from apple and on the verizon carrier. I was going to port my current number today ad switch carriers to At&T. So my iphone 11 will now be on the At&T network. My Question: When my 14 arrives next week, will it work on the AT&T network out of the box? When I ordered the 14 from Apple, they asked me who my carrier was at the time of order. It was verizon when i ordered. Does that matter? Does the phone come locked to verizon since I stated they were my carrier? Or, when I open the box and turn phone on and restore from a backup, will it be on the At&t network?

It will be locked for 60 days according to Verizon’s policy BUT I think this only will apply if you used Verizon installment plan to purchase versus using Apple or your Apple Card. Verizon’s policy says it will do it for all devices (including fully paid for upfront) if purchased from them or one of their retailers. I don’t do Verizon installments anymore so mine (including my iPhone 14 Pro Max) are not locked but my son 13 was initially locked for 60 days because we accepted a Verizon trade in offer when purchasing his through Apple (not installments but treated as such since he was getting the phone free with the credit spread out for 24 months when that was still an option). So it’s safe to go in expecting it to be locked if you used Verizon’s installment plan to purchase. You should have opted to get it choosing the carrier later as when it comes it will automatically activate to the Verizon network since that’s what you chose. You may luck up and it isn’t locked to Verizon but it will connect to Verizon (or try to) since that’s who the eSIM was designated for when the order was placed.
