After installing 12.6, many .bmp files will not open and claim to be damaged, although they opened correctly on all previous OS before installing the update. Any idea why some (not all) .bmp files cannot be opened? Occurs in Preview and when loading programmatically.

Known issue with Monterey 12.6. bmp files less than 24 bits cannot be opened. It's unknown if it's a bug or a planned change. GraphicConverter 11 & XnView MP can open the files and convert them to a usable format.

Just to add, since they can be opened in the upcoming Ventura I suspect it's a bug that snuck into 12.6
