dmg file created with Disk Utility

I created a password protected folder and used Disk Utility to create it. Here are the steps I followed

1 Opened Disk Utility / File/ New Image / Image from Folder

  1. Selected my Folder, selected Choose
  2. Set encryption to 128 bit
  3. Set my password
  4. Set image format to read/write
  5. Operation was successful Selected Done

The dmg file appeared in my location. I went to Finder and double clicked my dmg file and entered my password. I know it is the correct password because it didn't ask me again for it. My problem is it doesn't open the dmg after I enter my password. Any help would be much appreciated. I am using Mac Monterey

iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021, 2 ports)

Hello Ramaraced1,

After providing the password for a disk image created using the read/write option, the volume should appear in the sidebar of Finder and be accessible from there: Get to know the Finder on your Mac - Apple Support

If you still aren't seeing the volume in the sidebar of either Finder or the Disk Utility, does that still persist if you boot into safe mode using the steps below?

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

It can take a few extra minutes to boot into safe mode. Your screen may flash or flicker while in safe mode. Those behaviors are expected. Testing in safe mode runs a check on your disk, removes some cached files, and can help isolate conflicts with startup items. Once you've tested that behavior in safe mode, you can restart to leave safe mode.
