Add Card to Apple Wallet is not working

I have several cards in my wallet, but am unable to add an Apple Card (from Apple Gift card for iTunes/Apple Store) . The Apple Account card is listed as an option for adding a card to the wallet (other choices are Debit/Credit, Transit, and Drivers License), but when I try to add the Apple Card, I get an error saying "Cannot Add Card" and "your Apple Account Balance cannot be added to Wallet at this time".

So is a temporary error, or is it not possible to add an Apple Card to the Wallet?

You cannot add that gift card to Wallet. What it is asking is if you added a debit or credit card to Apple ID payment method without adding it to wallet it is giving you the option to add it to wallet. Gift card balances go to Apple ID funds.
