As stated in the keynote address announcing the iPhone 14 Pro Series, the proximity sensor (and apparently the ambient light sensor) has been relocated to behind the display and not within the Dynamic Island. Can anyone else actually see the proximity sensor while either flashing a flashlight or directing sunlight to the area of the screen below the Dynamic Island? Or do I have a defect in my screen?

Yep! It’s visible on my 14 Pro Max. In direct sunlight it looks like a tiny orange dot, a bit faint, but visible enough to get your attention.

Thank you for your reply. It’s very difficult to take a pic of it clearly right now. These are the best I can do to show the exact location. The spot circled is not dust or anything under the screen protector… it’s a perfect round, almost reflective spot that can only be seen in direct sunlight or with a flashlight pointing right at that spot. Best while the screen is off.
I appreciate your reply once again. I know there appears to be an amount of dust (especially within the picture) but I can guarantee it’s not dust caught under the screen protector. The picture cannot reveal that it’s very deep within the display itself. Just that one spot. And it happens to be right where they relocated theproximity sensor under display as depicted in these pics. I agree with your suggestion but it’s difficult for me to get to a store at this time so I figured I see if anyone on here has noticed it (or will be willing to look hard for it themselves). I appreciate your feedback!
Do you have anywhere nearby where you can look at an iPhone on display to see if it looks the same as what you’re seeing? I haven’t seen anything you’re mentioning or at least haven’t noticed it. But I also don’t plan to go out of my way to look for it. Since I have had the phone out in direct sunlight since the day I got it nothing has stood out. But it would help to see a picture of what you are seeing just in case I have seen it but it just didn’t stand out as odd to me.
Don’t see that on mine. At least not with a quick look using the flashlight. Again, I may not be looking hard enough for it though. When the screen is on do you notice anything? Does it affect the screen in that spot? If not I doubt it’s a defect but to set your mind at ease go to a store (Apple or any authorized retailer with a display out) and inspect it. Also, if at an Apple Store you can always ask them for added peace of mind. Hopefully someone else will chime in. Honestly though…just based on your picture it almost looks like a speck of dust caught under a screen protector. Not sure if you have one on but that’s the first thing I thought when I saw it.
I’m glad you posted something “AlvarengaJason” since it reminded me to post my findings. I’m sad to report that I had to return my beloved iPhone 14 Pro Max due to a failing logic board (or so they say) and they didn’t have a replacement for me. While I was there having the phone tested, I chose to test 7 different 14 Pros and Pro Maxs on display in the store, armed with the knowledge of what I had seen in my own phone and sure enough, in direct sunlight or flashlight, each one has the proximity sensor visible, indicative of the information released at Apple’s event that the sensor was relocated behind the screen. So you are absolutely correct in your assessment that it is indeed, the proximity sensor and not a screen blemish. Ironically, not one Apple Specialist (or Genius for that matter) knew that fact.
