Why did my iPhone 14 screen go black?

hold the power button until something happens.

I woke up this morning and my 14 pro had the black screen as well. I plugged it in and nothing.

The solution is to press the volume up botton once, then the volume down button once, and then finally to hold the power button until you see the Apple logo.

FYI, 16.0.2 did NOT fix the problem on my 14 Pro as hoped. I put it back on my wireless charger last night for the first time since my overnight BSOD a week ago. When I woke up this morning, it was clear the phone had rebooted (passcode required; different home screen widgets showing). I opened the battery app and found it had been unresponsive for 3 hours overnight, then re-booted itself. My first BSOD occurrence while charging overnight was similar but never rebooted. This is really annoying...

BTW, there's a 300+ post on Reddit discussing the issue. It seems to be highly correlated with charging, especially overnight charging, both wired and wireless. There are a couple of cases where this happened while not charging, but those seem rare. I'm surprised it hasn't appeared in the press yet. The Click Vol Up, Click Vol Down, Hold Sleep button until logo appears (up to a minute or two!) fix seems to revive the phone in all cases I've seen...

Worked for me. Kept it on the usb charger for about 3 hours and kept force starting until something happened.

This just happened to me for the first time too. The hard reset seemed to fix the issue, but I would like to know what Apple is doing to fix it from happening again. Like someone else said. I see a gap in timeline for my battery while charging overnight

I saw a tutorial ; press the up volume button once then the down volume once and hold the power button on the right side until you see the Apple logo. This resets the iPhone. It’s a firmware bug. I hope Apple fixes this soon. I had a mini melt down

Tried all solutions and none worked, still have black screen of death. Tomorrow I have to waste my time and take the problem to the Apple Store.

Had this just happen to my on my 12 pro. Charging overnight, complete brick in the morning. Hard reset doesn't work, Genius Bar can't even get it to come up on their diagnostic tool. Told I'm out of luck since I'm a couple months past warranty

Press the Siri button and ask to turn up the brightness. You’ll get a slider on the screen. Doesn’t keep it from happening again, but it works and is quick fix.

Ive had this exact problem twice now. Exactly as you described, overnight charging and woke up to a black screen of death iphone. If I open the battery app I can see that as soon as it reached full charge the phone crashed. Missed my morning meetings again because this is my alarm clock…

It won’t stop the issue from happening again, (happened to me, again, this morning) but it works. You won’t have to reboot your phone.
