playing vinyl through my HomePod via a Mac desktop

Hello i know this is possible but as yet i have not purchased a record player but i wondered what kind I would need i.e. not necessarily brand or model (although I do have a Sony in mind) but whether it should support USB or whether a standard player would suffice either with in built phono-stage or not.

Another question I have is whether I would be advised to use a third party application by Rough Amoeba called Airfoil Utility. It does not seem to be available via Apple store so I am rather wary

Thanks

I've used airfoil before I would not view them as shady, but I think to get all the features one have to get the paid version, but think you can use the free one to verify it works

about what which turn table you get rca or usb, depend on if the usb one is verified to work woth macs for audio playback

the rca could be connected to a preAmp (because old style turn tables signal is lower than tapedecks and cd players and the likes) and then into a mic input or line in (problem here is the if mic in then it's mono)
