My brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera is blurry whenever attempting to take close up pictures in 3rd party apps like Amazon, Target, Walmart (ie barcode scans). Phone is brand new out the box, updated to latest iOS (16.0.2), and have reinstalled the apps.
Anyone else with this issue?

I have the same problem scanning barcode on the weight watchers app iPhone 14 pro very burry
It doesn't matter if it appears blurry to you, the app will be able to read the bar code with no issues once you get the camera far enough away from the bar code.
The app will instantly recognize the bar code and will take the appropriate action no matter how it looks to you.
I do this every day.
Just slowly move the phone away from the bar code and it will eventually read just fine.

I have the same issue in a web app opened with Safari. The "webcam" inside Safari can't focus on the QR code. Maybe this also relates to 3rd party "apps", in this case it's some JavaScript lib, but not sure about that.
Shouldn't it work in Safari?
Move the camera further away from the QR code.
As the focus sharpens it will be read without issue, usually around seven inches away.
You don’t need to have it fill the screen or if the app shows a box, that box.

How about now? No one try to fix this issue?
Dogcow-Moof, I have an open ticket with Apple engineering. They have identified and acknowledged the issue. Changes made in the iOS software are not allowing 3rd party vendor apps to properly use the camera hardware. They will be issuing a bulletin soon to vendors with instructions on how address.
This approach only works for big-enough QR codes. If you have a small code to scan, it’s impossible. I‘ve tried that recently, no chance.
Thanks at least we now have action by Apple rather than comments which are not helping.
it would be helpful if more people contacted Apple to ensure this is moved up the list of issues to be addressed.

I have scanned codes as small as 1/2” square with no issues.
It’s just a matter of getting far enough away.

I have yet to find a third party app that wont scan a code or a QR code that won’t scan in third-party apps or by using Camera.
1" square, tried it multiple times. Doesn't work, even after updating to 16.2.

For a normal QR code, Camera can be read a code like this instantly, far away and at this size:
Nope. Lots of codes just don’t work, I’ve been trying the same one for the last 30mins , moving slowly up and down, to the point where it feels like this is some elaborate joke
unbelieveable that such a simple QR code reading error exists on breaks new tech like this
I should add, the camera can take clearer photos close in, but they don’t work the same as a qr reader obviously
They read perfectly, I do this several times per day.
If you are using Camera to read them, it may switch lenses; the third-party apps I’ve tried also work perfectly.
I’ve never found a properly formatted QR code that didn’t scan.
If it won’t scan, it may be the code is corrupt somehow.
