iPhone 14 Camera is Blurry

My brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera is blurry whenever attempting to take close up pictures in 3rd party apps like Amazon, Target, Walmart (ie barcode scans). Phone is brand new out the box, updated to latest iOS (16.0.2), and have reinstalled the apps.

Anyone else with this issue?

All I can say is I've had iPhones for over 10 years and I've never had the issues with the camera, both native and third-party apps and accessing the camera as I've had now with the new iPhone 14 Pro. Look at the picture attached. I made it this morning using the native camera unfortunately due to the focal distance, the iPhone could not figure out which camera to use and kept switching back-and-forth and ended up with a blurry picture. That is an issue with the iOS that did not exist before this version of the iPhone. I am seriously considering going back to an iPhone 13 as the issues did not exist with that phone.

You are too close for the wide camera to focus and the photo must be taken by the ultrawide camera in Macro mode.

The iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max had similar issues, but the 14 Pro/Pro Max does have a longer minimum focus distance with the standard wide lens, about 7.8" compared to 5.9" or so for the 13 Pro family.

Companies need to update their apps to properly use the new frameworks.

Try a free third-party app like Scandit and you'll see it can scan virtually anything, usually indicating it's the other app that's at fault, not iOS or the device.

If Scandit can't read it, it may show an issue with the code or yes, the OS.

I recommend Scandit as a test as the free app is basically an ad for their scanning solutions so their free app is highly optimized to read various codes from bar codes to QR codes to the format used on the back of many driver's licenses.

Again, the issue is NOT present in the iPhone's native camera app. The issue that everyone here is experiencing, YOURSELF INCLUDED, is that 3rd party apps are not able to use/work with the camera's close-up feature. This was not the case when the iPhone 14 Pro Max was first released. The issue started shortly after release when Apple made a change to the software.

If the capability to work with macro mode in third-party apps was removed in iOS 16, it would be complained about all over the Internet at large, and it was not, even on Reddit.

iOS 16.0.2 did resolve an issue with the vibration reduction system that was causing vibration and blurry photos under certain conditions with some 14 Pro/Pro Max units.

About iOS 16 Updates - Apple Support

Macro mode as present in the Camera app is unavailable to third-party apps, but they may be able to switch in various ways using existing frameworks.

It is NOT just 3rd party apps. Did you try Apple‘s own „Code Scanner“. It doesn’t work properly neither. This house of cards of the „user“, who is commenting on everything in this thread is collapsing.

If you don’t know how to find the code scanner, which is implemented in iOS, go to the Control Center, where it is more or less hidden and where you can activate it (may be there are other ways, I just know this one).

As I've stated before, you have to back away from the QR code, then it will be recognized and you will be taken to the web page represented by the code.

Here's how Camera saw a QR code; note how far away I was from the code:

Now, when I open the Code Reader, this is the initial view I see. Of course you can't scan it by filling the frame with the blurry code:

However, once you back away, moments after I backed up to a distance where the code was in sharp focus:

The frame animated to "zoom in" to denote it had recognized the QR code:

At which point it the code changed to a Safari logo and opened the link in Safari.

I have an iPhone 14 pro and have had it since mid Dec 2022. The camera has been working great until tonight. I use the camera often. All of the sudden, the photos are all blurry. This is with the IPhone photo app. It is not exclusive to any third party apps. Tried rebooting but same issue. I need the camera to work as it's an important part of our day to day work. Please advise.
