My Apple TV (A1842] 5th Gen keeps dropping Wi-Fi with BT Hub 2 only

Up until recently, my Apple TV has worked flawlessly, but recently, it stops streaming content and I get notifications that ‘The Home Hub is not responding’ then a couple of minutes later ‘The Home Hub is now responding’. It’s as if the Apple TV is losing Wi-Fi. But it always shows a connected. If you restart the Apple TV, all is good for a few minutes and then things stop working again. I’ve reset the router, still a problem. The router shows that the Apple TV is connected at 5Ghz and has a good signal strength. If I connect to the router via Ethernet, all works ok, so it’s something to do with the Wi-Fi. I’ve temporarily switched off the 5Ghz Wi-Fi to force the Apple TV to use 2.4Ghz, but still the same problem. If I connect to my neighbours router, all works fine, but they have an older BT Hub. All other devices in the home work fine over Wi-Fi.

Has anyone had any issues with Apple TV and BT Hub 2?

Jamkat28,

It’s good to know that when connected to a different network, the issue isn’t present. That means there isn’t a hardware issue with your Apple TV.

You mentioned your neighbors have an older BT Hub. Is there a difference in how they have their network set up vs yours? We know you reviewed Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points already. How do these recommendations compare to your neighbor’s setup?

Could there be any interference? Here’s a few things to check - Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

Thanks.

Hello Jamkat28.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. You've done an amazing job troubleshooting this issue with your Apple TV. Testing a different network was a great idea. You did mention that everything was ok while testing on that different Wi-Fi network. If that's the case, it does sound like this issue might be related to your home Wi-Fi network. There's a couple of recommendations we'd like to make to see if we can get this issue sorted out. First, apply the recommended Wi-Fi settings that Apple has listed here: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support

Also, updating your Apple TV to the latest tvOS version might help as well: Update your Apple TV - Apple Support

On Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD:

1.) Go to Settings > System > Software Updates and select Update Software.
2.) If there's an update, select Download and Install.
3.) Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Don't disconnect or unplug your Apple TV until the update completes.

We hope these steps are helpful. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Best of luck.
