iPad air 3rd gen. Screen works okay for a few seconds, then goes black. Resetting to factory settings gave me more like 30 secs, before going black again. Connects to networks okay. Is this hardware or software problem ?

For the few seconds the screen is visible, it's fine. It seems the iPad is running okay - the problem is limited to the screen going black after the first few seconds after wake-up. I can't figure whether the problem is the screen failing or the software turning the screen off

It maybe time for you to use the “Get Support” link, at the top far upper right hand corner of every Apple Support Community Webpage, and make an appointment for your nearest, local Apple Store to bring your iPad into the Apple Store location for Apple employees to test/diagnose and options presented to you.
