I pre-orderedd on the 9th (pro max 256 black) for a delivery of Sep 28 - Oct 3 (US). Today they charged my apple account balance and the status changed to Preparing to Ship. But the arrival time changed to Oct 26- Nov 2. The arrivall time is the same as I order today then why would I preorder?

Inventory for your particular configuration chose may be the cause of continued delays. It may come sooner than you are shown but one way to get some clarity (at least if you are in the US) is to sign up for UPS My Choice (it’s free) and check your deliveries. It will show exactly where your iPhone is at the moment (if the label was created, if it has officially started moving, where it is, when it gets to the main hub which is typically in Kentucky). Apple. Usually doesn’t start showing a change in its status until it finally moves from the hub and is within a day or 2 of delivery to you. Ultimately, if you had not preordered you could be looking at an even later date of arrival until sales slow a bit and inventory on hand changes. THAT is why preordering is good even with the delays.
