When I’m mailing back a phone for a credit on a new phone do I need to also returned the charger
I’m buying an iPhone 14 pro max and I am turning in my iPhone 12 pro max to also need to mail the charger

No … Apple actually encourages you to re-use your old power adaptors w/ your new phone.
Besides … your 12 Pro Max was not supplied w/ a power adaptor when it was new. (only a cable was in the box)
