How do I change the default from archive to trash?

for gmail on my phone, it's Settings > Mail > Accounts > Gmail > Account > Advanced and then under Move Discarded Messages Into: select Deleted Mailbox

iOS Mail App - Stop archiving emails? How do I stop Mail on iOS v16.6 from automatically archiving emails? I will see emails appear in my inbox then after a couple seconds they disappear. This is maddening. I very often need to reply to these emails, sometimes not immediately, but when I have time. After searching I found that they are being automagically archived for some inexplicable reason. I then have to go to my computer in order to find and reply to them. In the Advanced settings for iOS Mail (per email account) there are only two options: Archive or Delete. I want neither. Just leave my mail alone please. I cannot fathom the logic of randomly hiding email messages. It's nonsensical. And yes others are having this problem as well (I searched without finding a solution). This "feature" renders the mail app almost worthless, maybe worse than worthless because people may miss important emails without even knowing it.

No trash option available in swipe I just wanted to move my emails to the trash when I left swipe, but the only option is to archive them. I’ve tried changing it in mail, but trash is the only option that doesn’t exist (as opposed to flag, archive, etc.) In iOS 17 and before, Passwords & Accounts existed and you could change this in advanced settings, but I’m unable to figure out how to fix it in iOS 17
