Cannot edit pre-iOS16 Lock screen, have to add new, why?

So I liked my lock screen image and wallpaper that was set before upgrading to iOS16 but now I do not like the font and would like to add some widgets. When I get into the lock screen edit/customize mode, it will not let me customize the original (pre-upgrade), I have to add new and I see I cannot replicate my original setup, only add new ones (which is cool, don't get me wrong) but I'd like to keep my setup and just edit the fonts and other things. Why no backwards compatibility?

I have the same issue, you have to have the image to create a new wallpaper. But if you have used it before and don’t have it. You can’t change the WAY too big font. Why didn’t they default it to what they used on all the other updates? Suddenly they roll out an update with gigantic fonts on the clock.
