Find My Causing 100% Background Activity on iPhone 12 Battery

Last night when I was asleep with my iPhone 12 in airplane mode, Bluetooth off, my battery showed the “Find My” app was using 100% background activity every hour for eight straight hours, which doesn’t make any sense because it shouldn’t be “working” to find anything when it’s in airplane mode. Today, when my phone was out of airplane mode and Bluetooth turned on, it didn’t show any “Find My” battery usage, but when I left my phone at home for a few hours today, the battery usage was 100% again.

What’ causing this bug? I setup a new AirTag a few days ago, and read others experiencing similar issues, but didn’t see any remedies. I tried shutting down my phone, to no avail.

Apple essentially said that "Find My" is preset to run during "typical overnight hours" using Apple's servers if Bluetooth is turned on because those are the hours most people are not using their bluetooth devices, so it runs in the background to keep tabs of your devices. There's a shortcut automation that you can enable to turn bluetooth off when Sleep mode (Health app) is activated and that prevents the drainage overnight.

As for "Find My" running during the normal waking hours, it seems to be hit or miss, and hasn't even shown up lately despite me using bluetooth devices, so it's definitely bizarre, but not as much of a concern anymore, for now ;)

Very similar thing happened to me last night. iPhone 12 Pro Max in airplane mode (which I tend to put it in over night) and then looking at my battery now in the morning it was lower than expected. I can see reports of ”Find My” showing as ”battery usages 100%” several times during the night in Settings -> Battery. Also Google Drive (which I use for work) was listed there as doing background activity, but the battery usage shows as ”-” which I don't know what it means.

Have iOS 16.1 and a few AirTags.

Don't think I've ever seen this before, at least it's the first time I notice it. 🤔
