4.0.2 guzzling my battery. Your's too?

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.0.2 on 11th Aug night, and I have experienced a much faster battery drain than before.

While my iPhone 4 used to sip battery with iOS 4.0.1 firmware, I can notice the difference that it is really draining a lot more battery than before, specially when I am using an app. On standby, however the battery drain issue is comparatively negligible.

What was surprising was, how can 4.0.2 be NOT better than 4.0.1, I mean it is not 4.0.0.2 right?
But I expect Apple to take heed on this and solve this issue ASAP.

Have any of your experienced the same?

Cheers!
Sam

No change here.

BTW, the only thing that 4.0.2 did is fix a security hole.

Hmmm...

I think it's a different situation for every user? When I first received my phone, battery life was a bit sketchy (ie. Battery life drains quickly even when the phone is off) when it was running on 4.0.1.

I updated to 4.0.2 and my battery life became normal (ie. I can have my phone on sleep for many hours and not see a drop in battery life %).

Have you tried restoring as new? I read from other threads that restoring the phone as new helped with their battery issues.

Perhaps an appointment with the Genius Bar would help sort this out.

Hey iT!

Thanks for the update. I have seen almost similar battery drain on standby, which I think is an acceptable level and a decent trade-off for having everything running. But it is the usage I am more concerned about. Moving to iPhone 4 also had an additional motiv for me, to have some additional battery left after the day (office), so that I can listen to some music on my way back home or watch a short movie while in The Tube.

Lemme know what do you feel about battery backup while using iTunes, reading on iBooks and while executing some Apps.

Cheers!

I would suggest book a genius reservation if you feel your battery is draining away at an unacceptable level (or peace of mind). I did for my first handset and have another booked for tomorrow with the same drainage issues - something that other iP4 owners in my life are not experiencing.

If it's under warranty, you're good to go 🙂

Hi maddhaeh!

I believe, you can use firmware 4.0.1 and try to restore your iPhone from itunes. It should work. I tried it on my friend's phone and it was working after that.
You'll find many forums here talking about how you can migrate to 4.0.1.
To restore your phone:
just connect to iTunes>>go to devices menu>> click on your Phone's name>>click on restore.
There is even help available from iTunes how to restore your device.
Don't worry, it should be ok mate.

Cheers!

Hi Designerdave!

Thanks for the advice. I guess I will monitor it for some more days before booking an appointment with the Genius Bar. Yeah I just got my phone quite late so I guess should not worry too much about the firmware performance.
Also I started this thread so that we can bring along everybody facing this problem on their iPhones, so that Apple can take heed and do something about it.

Cheers!

I updated this morning and have actually noticed my battery life has increased. I know that this update was supposed to just be a security update, but i honestly have noticed a change in my battery. before on 4.0.1 the battery would drain in standby yet now with 4.0.2 it can sit in standby and not go down even 1 percent. Apart from that, that's the only thing i have noticed that's different with 4.0.2

Hi Sam,

Although this is a user forum, we can only hope that Apple engineers are taking on board our annotations - after all we (I use the term 'we' loosely as others are fine with their units) are the ones in limbo! It's just a shame that it takes the jailbreak scenario for them to actually do something to the firmware.

With 4.1 will having a 'Christmas' load of fixes, who's to know when it will be released especially as it's into Beta 3. I've been monitoring (not babying though 🙂 ) my second phone up until I thought, right, it's not my problem that this is happening so let the company that produced it sort it out. Maybe I'l get a replacement or maybe they'll say it's a common cause but for peace of mind, I'd rather know as to speculate.

Life's too short and it's just a phone. Although saying that – and before people start waving their arms about after that comment - it's a great piece of kit 🙂

Hi LJ!

Thanks for responding.

You are right in putting that sometimes, the percentage is not changing at all while on standby. However it was not true for 100% times. If we use the phone in an area where network keeps on fluctuating (eg: while travelling through central London), it still dropped but was not more than 1% lost through a couple of hours on standby.

Please keep us posted on anything new you find out on 4.0.2 regarding battery and performance.

Cheers!

Hi Designerdave!

I agree with you on that one. This is surely a nice piece of engineering.

Though speaking to a couple of Apple officials in London, I found out that Apple does keep a track of changes happening in the market, and having this forum within Apple's domain name was primarily a though inclined towards their "taking care of customers" perspective which trickles down from top-management to the bottom.

I will surely be looking forward to 4.1 but would also love to know what my fellow iP4 users are experiencing with the updates happening every now and then.

Cheers!
