Can’t delete text messages in iOS 16.0.2

Updated my iPhone 13 Pro to iOS 16.0.2 this morning. Since then, I am unable to delete iMessage conversations. Swiping Delete just makes it reappear. Non-iMessages will delete normally but iMessages won't.

Have tried shutting the iPhone off and turning it back on and also tried Reset| Reset Network Settings which did not help. I can delete iMessages on my other Apple devices. Is this a bug on iOS 16.0.2?

I’ve been on the phone with tech support and they are aware it’s a issue with the new update and they are working on a fix for it

I just went into the recently deleted area in messages and deleted all of those, then it finally deleted that one message text that wasn’t deleting. If you go to the top left hand corner in messages where it says edit, it’ll bring down a list and at the bottom it says recently deleted. After you go into the recently deleted then hit the delete all button on the bottom left hand corner. Then go back and see if the message chat is gone. Mine was.

this has been plaguing my new iPhone pro 14 max also. One group text message just would not delete.

Somewhere down the line, a person says to go to text messages, choose, edit, select the person or persons that the message is from, and delete. Then go back and delete the text message.

This worked great on my phone and probably will on yours too.
