Making iTunes miniplayer work like the older version

This is a two-part question. The old iTunes miniplayer did not leave the controls showing. I miss that terribly. I use a Mac mostly for viewing the desktop background (scenery and such) and the very nice artwork that I add to each of the tunes to which I listen. The last thing I need is to have the controls showing for no apparent reason.

Question 1: Is there some way to make those controls go away and show just the artwork in the iTunes miniplayer?

Question 2: If not, can the Apple M1 run the Yosemite (maybe Big Sur?) operating system? I'm not sure about Big Sur. I am running Yosemite on an older computer and I know it works right on that os.
