Is this a norm? Very disappointed with apple’s QC. Obviously if this was a knock it would have a rough feel to it but it’s totally smooth and embedded.

Any manufacturing process can have glitches.
Make an appointment to have your phone examined at a local Apple Store, they will take it from there.
