Mail on MacBook Air

My computer saves fragments of emails while I am writing them although they often don't show up on the dock for several hours. So I may have part written an email then go back a few minutes or some time later to add to it when it is in the drafts folder.

After I have sent the email in it's final full form these fragments appear in my dock and I have to delete them, it can be up to 5 even though I only stopped and restarted the draft email once.

Does this happen to anyone else?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.5

Hi there ackroydon,

So that we can get a better understanding of what's happening, do you use your Mac to write and send these emails or do you use another device? We ask because are you seeing a Handoff Mail icon in the Dock of your Mac or something else? This has more information on Handoff: Pick up where you left off with Handoff on Mac

Also, to clarify, are you referencing this Dock on your Mac or something else? Use the Dock on Mac

Let's ensure your Mac is fully updated too as this installs bug fixes that can alleviate this unexpected behavior. This walks you through the steps: Update macOS on Mac

If something else is happening, please provide more details so that we can assist further.

Thanks!

Thanks for getting back to us, ackroydon. It’s appreciated.

Save draft emails in Mail on Mac - Apple Support -- When you minimize an email you’re composing and pick it back up again later, the Mail app doesn’t recognize it as a draft. It sees it as a whole new email you’re writing instead. This page of the macOS User Guide provides the steps to saving your emails as a draft. You can open it from the Draft folder and continue writing without leaving copies on the Dock of your Mac.

Feel free to get back to us with any questions or problems you may have.

All the best.

Hi Ben _Z1

Thanks for the reply.

I keep the MacBook air regularly updated, I have just updated to Monterey 12.6.

I am talking about the dock on the MacBook air and I don't know about handoff on Mac so haven't set it up, unless it happens automatically?

I just tried again by starting an email, minimising it so it goes to drafts, then writing another line and letting it go back to drafts. Then I sent it, so it is no longer in drafts but now I have 2 fragments in my doc, please see attached screenshot of my dock. The two docs to the immediate left of the bin are the fragments I am talking about. They go there and I have to click on them one at a time. One will open as the first draft saved and the other is the second draft saved.

Then I have to click on 'do not save' in order to get rid of them even though when I go into mail there is no sign of them, they are no longer in the drafts folder. On a busy work day I can end up with 20 of them - it has been happening on & off since I got this MacBook Air in mid 2020 but is getting worse.

I cannot find any settings to change to stop it and it is annoying to have to close so many documents every day.

Do you have any suggestions of what I can do to stop it?

Thanks for your help
