I have check showing new message but there are no new messages. I might have deleted a message without reading it. When I try to edit messages I do not have recently deleted in the tab edit

As mentioned on the following page, iOS 16 or later is required to recover deleted conversations, and only messages deleted within the last 30-40 days can be recovered.
With these considerations taken into account, you can recover messages using the following steps:
1: In Messages, tap Edit.
2: Tap Show Recently Deleted .
3: Choose the conversations with the messages you want to restore, then tap Recover.
4: Tap Recover Message or Recover [Number] Messages.

I do not have a recently deleted in my message edit tab. I am trying to retrieve a message I deleted without opening to read as I get check mark for new message that won’t go away
