You tried to "verify" using "live mode." A more reliable method is to boot into Recovery Mode (instructions differ for different models of Mac):

Use macOS Recovery on a Mac with Apple silicon - Apple Support

Use macOS Recovery on an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support

Run Disk Utility from Recovery Mode and then run First Aid from there. If you get the same error, try again a few times. If it is consistently returning that error, then make sure you have two complete backups of your Mac -- verify them by trying some random file and folder restores from each of them. Two backups, in case something goes amiss.

Download and run DriveDX to check the PHYSICAL health of your drive, to rule out the drive hardware failing. Run the long (extended) DriveDX test.

Then, if the hardware is ok but First Aid still fails consistently, you can completely erase/format your drive

Erase all content and settings on Mac - Apple Support

and upon first boot up, choose the option to bring over just user accounts and files from your backup. This works well with Time Machine backups. Reinstall third party software and reestablish settings from scratch.
