I just upgraded to Monterey 12.6.1 and my Garage Band has not worked ever since.
I am a music teacher and recording musician and Garage Band is my core piece of equipment for recording all of my compositions and my students are waiting for the audio they asked for 12 days ago! My main reason for buying and using my Macbook Pro and all my Music Studio equipment was for Garage Band. Help!
I got the same error message as mads0 (above) and the full code error report should have been automatically received at Apple as it happened, I also sent a comment / message to apple since then. Nothing has come back to correct this major problem.
I have a mid 2015 MacBook Retina 15inch

hey its mads,
I fixed the problem on a call with apple support.
the guy made me restart my Mac and then instead of going to updates in the App Store, he told me to look up garage band in App Store, and there was an update there that didn't show up in the updates section, I updated it then he told me to restart my computer again. when I turned it back on it was working.
try this and see if it helps.
2019 intel MacBook pro 16" macOS 12.6 - application will not open. have removed and reinstalled the app but issue remains. Please resolve this!
I am running an iMac probably ten years old, using OS 12.6 (just installed). GarageBand version 10.4.1 (just installed.) I don't know what version GB I had before. Only that it worked, despite its many bugs. use a MOTU 4 channel USB interface. When I try to boot up GB, I get this message; The application “GarageBand” can’t be opened. I have a body of work created in GB. I hope to continue using it. Does anyone know how I can get GB to function?
Thanks for messaging Keith. I don't know how to find out the version of my Garage Band as only the error report comes up whenever I click on the icon and that's the only way I have ever accessed it. My GB software came on my Macbook Pro Retina 15inch when I bought it in mid-2015 and has been automatically updated ever since alongside all the other software, none of which seems any worse for ware. I'm operating within Monterey 12.6.1
A few minutes ago I tried downloading Garage Band from the Ap Store to no avail but thanks AustinHead 22
I just upgraded to Monterey 12.6.1 today and had the exact same problem after installing GarageBand (10.4.1). I fixed it thanks to the comments by everyone in this thread. I'll add that when I first went to the App Store, the non-working version of GarageBand (10.4.1) is what popped up in the Search tool. I searched for a few spelling variations of "GarageBand" and finally 10.4.7 (the now-latest update) popped up. I installed that and everything's good to go. Whew!
I got a similar mistake message as mads0 (above) and the full code blunder report ought to have been consequently gotten at Apple as it worked out, I likewise sent a remark/message to apple from that point forward. Nothing has returned to address this serious issue.
What happens when you try?
If GarageBand isn't working on your Mac - Apple Support
You can also try starting in safe mode.
What OS did you come from?
What version of GB are you trying to run?
Have you tried to re-download the most recent version from the App Store?
Go to the App Store on your Macbook, search Garage Band, it should have an update available for you!
Do you have a backup of the Old OS? You might need to revert until you can sort out the issues with the new GB. Did you try any of the troubleshooting steps I pointed you to?
Thanks for responding. I downloaded GB a second time. It now works!
What version of Garageband? You should start your own topic.
ps. This is my first ever foray into this support community, how do I start a topic ?
Sorted!
I just tried AustinHead22's suggestion a second time and it worked, I have re-downloaded Garage Band successfully from the AppStore
Thank you Keith and Austin
