Pairing a Magic Mouse to a Macbook Air

I just purchased a new Macbook Air and a Magic Mouse. I was having difficulty pairing the two, and I found an article here in Community telling me to connect both devices via the USBC to Lightning cable for one minute and then disconnect them. When I did that, the two devices were paired. Am i going to have to do this everytime? So far, I've had to connec them two more times in order for them to work together. I know now that it's going to get annoying very quickly if i'm going to have to.

Please help,.
