My iPhone is drying out in cup of rice - can I forward text messages to my MacBook?

I tried to add my phone number to system preferences on the MacBook but it had to send a verification code to my phone, which is unusable at the moment. Anything else I can try?

I just bought a new iphone 15 pro max and have discovered I am suddenly unable to send text messages on my iMac. Strangely my text messages are sending on my new phone and people are able to respond to them. But on my iMac they will not deliver. I called Apple Support and they could not help me.

Text message forwarding not working from iPhone to Mac I have text message forwarding enabled on my iPhone, so that I can send and receive messages from the phone on my Mac. But sometime in the last month or two, this has stopped working. Both devices are running the latest iOS 17.1.1 and MacOS 14.1.1. I've toggled the "text message forwarding" setting repeatedly, and restarted each device more than once. Also, there used to be an option for Messages on my Mac to start new conversations using my phone number, but I no longer see that -- only my Apple ID. I'm thinking this may be related. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

No "forward text messages" on ios 17.5.1 I'm reviving a topic that has been addressed unsuccessfully and then DROPPED each time. Husband's Iphone 12 pro, ios 17.5.1 no longer forwards SMS. Other messages are forwarded without this setting being present. On mine, iphone 12 pro max, the setting is there and working. I believe this to be a fairly new problem because it's only recently that sms won't send from Macbook. No need to tell me to check apple ids or turn off messages both on phone and in icloud, etc. All tried and failed.

Yes; there are a lot of options. You can have a code sent to any of your "trusted devices" including the MacBook: Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support.

You can also request a voice phone call that will read you the code.

Of course those options need to be set up ahead of time. Are you trying to set up two-factor authentication for the first time?
