when i git my first iphone i made the name something silly that was an inside joke between a few friends. now when i try to change it it changes in the settings for my apple id, but not in other places like when it asks if i want to share my contact. it will not change no matter what i do

If you have changed your ID or password, have you followed the steps in this article on all devices/computers? Make sure you turn off Find My Phone before signing out of the old ID. Once signed out and Find My Phone is off, then sign in with the new ID, then turn Find My Phone back on.
