With an iPhone 6 on iOS 11, you don’t.

An iPhone 6 can get to iOS 12, which is (still) supported by Meta WhatsApp.

Then get the app from the app store.

When Meta drops support for iOS 12, you’ll need to use the WhatsApp website interface, or acquire a newer or new iPhone.

iPhone 8 and newer are supported with the current iOS 16.
