Also included are temporary files, fonts, app support files, and plug-ins. You can't manage the contents of this category. The contents are managed by macOS, and the category varies in size depending on the current state of your Mac.

Generally not recommended. A lot of system data is dynamically created from iCloud folder backups to Time Machine backups.

Your best bet is to copy the contents of your photo and video libraries to a couple of external hard drives, of any data that you don't need access to immediately to free up space. If you delete unused applications that you found at the App Store you can always redownload them too.
