Apple Watch seven versus Gym equipment

I just use my Apple Watch 7 at the gym for the first time. I chose the indoor bike setting. I was using a recumbent bike at the gym. My heart rate was reflecting properly on my watch. But I noticed that my watch was only recording about 60% of the calories burned compared to the gym equipment. I had to enter my weight into the gym equipment. What would cause this difference?

Apple Watch Series 7, watchOS 8

Hey there Tesse2,

While we're unable to answer your question directly as the gym equipment isn't by Apple, we certainly want to help you get the most accurate information on your Apple Watch by confirming the following:

  1. Have you already entered your weight into your watch? This detail and others are listed in this link to Get the most accurate measurements using your Apple Watch
  2. If you're pairing with a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.0.2. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
  3. We also see that you have watchOS 8 installed, but the latest compatible version for your model is watchOS 9.0. Here's a link that'll show how to Update your Apple Watch.
  4. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone and How to restart your Apple Watch

Cheers.
