Timer doesn't sound if set to same interval as screen lock.

Original post (iPhone Timer doesn't sound if period is s… - Apple Community) was locked due to inactivity, but I still have the same issue in October 2022 with iOS 15.6.1.

Note the the response to the original post suggests restarting the phone. That works for me for a few minutes, but the problem recurs after a few minutes every time. How can I fix this permanently?

----

If I set a timer on my iPhone for the same time interval as my

"Auto-Lock" Display setting, and then I don't touch the phone during

that period, the timer will not sound, or the sound will be cut off

almost immediately. For example, I have Auto-Lock set to 5 minutes. If I

set a timer for 5 minutes and leave the phone alone for that time, the

timer expires without the phone making any sound at all. A timer set for

4 or 6 minutes works correctly. This started happening several months

ago, and it happens every time now. How can I fix this?

Hi JC Daws,

If restarting did not completely fix the issue, we suggesting updating your iPhone to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.0.2. Software updates often correct software issues like this: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

  1. "Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15 and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 16.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."
