iPhone SE, iOS 12
When I loaded the photo, Apple removed my comments. My phone won't allow me to change my greeting to the custom one. It shares the default message and hangs up on people, not allowing them to leave a voicemail. I've read 5 articles, and done the following several times each:
—Airplane mode turned on for 3 minutes
—Turned wifi off, turned cellular data on, turned phone off, turned phone back on
—Re set up voicemail ... that's how I get the error screen above, when I try to save a new custom greeting
—Reset the network settings
—Updated the software, iOS 16.0.2 now running
What else do I try? I'm going to call AT&T and ask if my IMEI has been compromised ...

You need to call your voicemail box xxxx and listen to the main menu.
You need to check with your carrier, which number you need to press for the main menu.
The voicemail settings are controlled by your carrier, so contact your carrier.
Right. Did that. Several times. I press 1. Then I get the set up menus. I go through all the menus. Select personal greeting. hit pound. All good. Then when I test it, I get the default. And I've just repeated this process again. Didn't work.
