AirDrop doesn't work when connected to an external monitor

Whenever my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) is connected to external monitor (via Thunderbolt 3 - USB C), the AirDrop window in the Finder does not register any mouse input. I have to press ESC on my bluetooth keyboard or force quit the Finder to get the window to close. Mostly when I unplug my laptop from the external display, AirDrop works without any issues, but this is an inconvenient workaround.

It takes extra effort to share the files with my co-workers and mostly I am sharing files using external hard drive.
