home app crashing, and can’t replace it.

On my iPad the Home app crashes, i.e. returns to the Home Screen, as soon as I launch it. Thinking the app may be corrupted, I decided to delete it and get a new copy from the App Store. When I try to delete Home, I get a message that I must first remove any HomePods that are configured in it. Which, of course, I can’t do because I can’t open the app. There are 6 HomePods in my configuration.

Note: I have restarted everything many times, and logged out of and back in to iCloud. It doesn’t help.

What’s my next move?

You can still remove it by pressing the top method Reset HomePod - Apple Support

then you’d have to set it up again (either method)

  • Instead of going through all that, close the app & try restarting the iPad first

If your iPad needs a software update install that to refresh the home app. It should be on 15.7. iPadOS 16 should be released this month some time.
