Need watch help!

My series 3 watch will notify me of a text with sound but is not displaying the message. This just started a couple of weeks ago. Tried to turn off the watch and it won't.

iphone 2020se and apple watch se - no text alert on watch iphone 2020se and apple watch se (1st gen). Watch doesn't notify of texts via the red dot or sound or haptics. When click on the text icon, can see the text. Both the watch and the phone have the latest software update. Checked and not on silent mode. Why won't the watch notify?
