Voice messages

I was wondering if someone could help me understand voice messages a bit better. I sent a voice message to someone and after listening to it back (after I sent it) I noticed that the voice message disappeared. My question is does that mean that because I listened to the message after it sent that both parties have a deleted from their phones or does that mean that the recipient has also listened to it and that’s why it’s removed?
