HP printer shows on MacBook Air but remains off-line.

Hello out there to you marvellous talented Apple experts,

I have a problem with my MacBook Air (Monterey 12.6 OS) and I am stymied. During Hurricane Ian we lost power for perhaps ten second (I know how very lucky we all are living north of Lee County and environs). Now the printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer) is offline according to my MacBook Air. I have tried everything I know:

Turned off the printer then turned off the wifi. Shut down my computer.

Turned the wifi on, then the printer and then rebooted my computer.

Removed the printer from system preferences on my computer.

Downloaded HP up-to-date software from the App Store.

Went through the process of adding my printer back onto my computer, using the HP software.

**I shut down my computer after each step.

The printer now appears under system preferences, but as offline. The HP printer itself shows that it is online. I have successfully printed from my iPhone.

I'm ready to throw the printer out of a window! However, it has been a very good printer/scanner. The HP may be eight years old, but the software is up-to-date and it works just fine. How do I talk my computer into recognizing the printer? I’ve begged, demanded and cursed at my MacBook, but no luck. Help!

Hi,

An HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-In-One is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model with support for the driverless AirPrint technology. An AirPrint-enabled model is compatible with macOS and can be used without the need for additional drivers, provided that the printer and the Mac computer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router).

To begin with, check all Wi-Fi settings. If you are using AirPrint, you should not have to use separate macOS software from the printer manufacturer (possibly only for some setup or ink management purposes).

In case there is a problem with AirPrint discovery, you may want to (again) try the following full procedure (in this order):

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac, and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac. Finally, power on all other devices/computers.
