HomeKit Lock and Blackouts

I currently have a non-HomeKit smart lock. It happened twice that, arriving home, there was a blackout and I cannot open the door because wifi is off and my iPhone cannot connect with the lock. Therefore, I am searching for a new lock that resolves that issue.

I also have an AppleTV 4K and some HomeKit accessories and I would like to know if my iPhone can directly connect to (all/some/none) battery-powered HomeKit Locks even when there is a blackout and my wifi router and the AppleTV are off.

If only some HomeKit locks support this functionality, how can I identify it before purchasing the lock?

Thank you very much!

Hello,

The way HomeKit works, the lock would have to have some form of connection to your Home Hub (which requires Wi-Fi). The most I can suggest are locks that support Apple Home Key, so you could still use your iPhone to unlock your lock even when the power is out (keep in mind this would not be through HomeKit).

Here is a helpful article from HomeKit Authority: https://www.homekitauthority.com/all-the-smart-locks-that-support-apple-home-key/ Thanks for reaching out! -Drake
