OCR prg for Mac

If you are using macOS 11 or later, and if you need to extract text from scanned PDFs, then ABBYY's FineReader PDF: OCR Converter can extract that text into Word, Excel, and 15 more formats. There is a free trial and it can be had thru the Mac App Store too. There are in-app purchases though not illustrated in the Mac App Store. Purchased directly from ABBYY, it is a $69/yr subscription.

If you search in the Mac App Store for OCR, you will get many other choices, but do check their operating system requirements in their Mac App Store page, and how long ago they were updated.

If you do not want a subscription solution, you may be able to acquire any of the true PDF Editors (not readers) from the Mac App Store that also have free trials from the respective vendor site, and also may feature OCR to Word document extraction capability.

Seemingly there's some functionality (Mac, as well as iPhones/iPads can detect text from pictures) but wait for new iOS/macOS for even better capabilities.

If you're talking about detecting directly from the image then, probably it's hard to tell. I tried Adobe Acrobat DC once.
