iOS 16 no audio through Ford Sync over Bluetooth or USB

After installing iOS 16.0.2 my phone successfully connects to the Ford Sync (2009 F150) system over Bluetooth, but no audio comes out. I've had my truck for 13 years and never had issues with Bluetooth until this recent iOS update.

I've ensured neither the phone, nor Sync volumes are off. I've removed Sync from my phone's Bluetooth and reconfigured the connection, also performed a hard-reboot of my phone and a master reset of Sync to no avail. I've plugged the phone in via USB and changed the phone output to dock connector, Sync to USB and experienced no audio: interestingly, I can see on the Sync system the song info and skip to the next track through Sync successfully. NOTE: I also connected my wife's phone, iOS 16.0.2, and experienced the same problem - no audio.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Have you found a fix for this yet? I am having the same problem with my 2018 Explorer. I cannot play music via bluetooth or text either. When I activate Siri she either goes dead or says that she is working on that and then there is an error.

I can, now, successfully play audio on the Sync system

through Bluetooth and the USB connections.

I tested connecting an older iPhone 6s, running iOS v15.x.x

and encountered the same problem as my iPhone 13 pro.  I then proceeded to

remove the negative cable from the car battery and left if off for ~1 minute,

then reconnected the battery.  This did a complete reset of the Sync

system (different from the master reset I performed a few other times).

After that complete reset, the audio comes through successfully.

Hello JLH512 - yes, I was able to resolve my issue.

I simply removed the negative cable from the car battery and left if off for ~1 minute, then reconnected the battery.  This did a complete reset of the Sync system (different from the master reset I performed a few other times).

After that complete reset, the audio started working.
