Clock timer and iOS 16 lock screen

Apple are not here.

1. turn off the phone display before putting in your pocket
2. Turn off raise to wake
3. Turn off tap to wake
4. make any requests to Apple to "sort this out" at https://apple.com/feedback not here

Swipe it to the left and it goes away. I hate it. It’s so easy to accidentally turn off

Fully agree with you that the feature of having the clock timer on the lock screen is VERY frustrating. Even if I darken my screen, I often walk around my home holding my phone to carry it from place to place, so my hand will cause the screen to activate and the timer will inevitably get paused. I wish there was a way to have a true lock screen without any controls on it. The same thing happens with my music all the time. But the timer is worse because you can totally end up ruining your cooking or leaving laundry in dryer too long etc.

yeah - wow - just happened for me too. Whoever added this feature forgot to do an actual user study.

Showing the remaining time on the lock screen is fine, but be able to pause or cancel WITHOUT any type of confirmation is just plain stupid.

When you start a timer, you expect that timer to run until it expires or until you deliberately stops it. Not because you grab your phone a put it in your pocket.

Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update

The original post was about accidentally brushing the locked screen. Which is what I did too. The entire point of this is that we don’t “carry it around with the timer screen showing.” I lock the phone, screen is dark, but then when carrying it around the screen inadvertently activates and when the timer controls are on the screen they can be touched by accident. That is why this is frustrating. If we were silly enough to not bother locking our phones that would be a different matter.

Yes, the swipe left clears the timer from the lock screen and the timer continues to time, but beware the next time you set the timer, it will be back on the lock screen!

There’s (obviously) no way to turn off the feature or to downgrade from the latest software update, which is why people are annoyed. I encourage everyone to send feedback to apple on this issue.

Hate this as well just found out how to do this so swipe timer on home screen and click clear to remove from home screen. Timer will stay on

Turning off raise to wake will not affect notifications either sound or haptics and the screen will still light up.

Raise to wake simply avoids the need to tap the side button when you want to open the phone.

het179's solution is a great find (thanks!), but it still doesn't absolve Apple from implementing a dumb change that reduces the usefullness and reliability of a simple one function app that has existed since IOS 3 or earlier. It still is ridiculous that I now have to choose between a) not being able to check how much time is left on the timer or b) risk accidentally cancelling.

I have the exact same issue. While it’s nice to see how much time is left on the timer, it should not be so easy to pause/cancel it from the lock screen. Please improve so that we all stop accidentally pausing/cancelling important timers we set.

As a workaround, I find myself setting alarms now instead, which is not preferred.

I agree - I use the timer all the time for cooking and accidentally paused it. Who on earth wants to pause a timer on the lockscreen? Sort this out please, Apple!

It may be that there is a 3rd party app timer that we can use. I suggest doing some research and posting the findings here.
