AirTag notifications pause indefinitely

I contacted Apple support - spoke to a Sr. advisor. After spending 45 minutes trying to explain to me that this is how an AirTag (whether it's family or not) it is supposed to work the line got disconnected. She never called back. SMH.

So no one knows. This didn't happen when we were on iOS 15. This is post iOS 16. She asked me that I could turn off all notifications thus eliminating a rogue AirTag notification. Not paranoid or anything but this is not the solution.

Family sharing should allow me to mute these notifications indefinitely. Family sharing should be smart enough to know that if I am sharing my location with the rest of my family and they are doing the same thing I don't need an AirTag to track them. I can use find my phone to track their phones. So the argument is stupid imo.

Surely, I can't be the only one with this issue. I find that strange.

I'm having the same problem. Opened a case with Apple, I was told to restart devices, turn off and on location sharing, etc etc. We are all in an Apple 'Family' by my wife and I still get notifications of each others tags following us with NO option to pause indefinitely. It's really annoying. Has anyone actually resolved it when you've done everything Apple says to do and it still doesn't work?

I’d suggest power-off restarting all the devices.

AirTag notifications are tightly tied to the AppleID and sometimes this action gets the AppleID to re-sync.

The “next step” would be logging-out of AppleID and then logging back in.

Id’d still suggest the full sign-out and re-sign-in method.

It’s not as “extreme” as it sounds and often solves otherwise inexplicable AppleID-related issues.

All members of the family SHOULD indeed have the “Indefinite” option for each other’s AirTags.

Well that’s unfortunate.

It shouldn’t work that way.

It might appear that AirTags as a product line still have some “maturing” to do.

I too have noticed behaviors which deviate from what’s published.

The update didn't fix this. The sign-out function and sign-in didn't correct it. My kids updated to the latest update and when we sit in my wifes car (without my wife) and drive them to school all their phones are telling them that an airTag is following them. Only option is to Pause for One Day.

I was beginning to harbor self-doubts; but tried it again myself Saturday during a football “halftime” break.

”My Bad” for not being more clear about what was meant by the term “Apple Family.”

Lesson self-learned about “clear communication” and making invalid reader assumptions when using non-standard “lingo.”

I don't get that option. I can only pause for 1-day. My son also gets the alerts when he's sitting in my wife's car (AirTag is on her keys) when only him and I driving. It's so annoying.

So the same question posed earlier still applies:

“Are all individuals in the same Apple ‘Family Sharing’ group ?”

Correct - my kids, my wife and I are under the same family.

The phones have been restarted multiple times - even changed batteries in the AirTags. I have noticed this once iOS 16 was installed on the phones. Prior to the iOS upgrade I never had that issue.

FWIW, my own “family unit” of 2+2 AirTags seemed to have transitioned to 16 w/o a hitch. 🤔

If there was a way to Pause notification indefinitely that would be great however I can only pause for one-day. I am hoping the new update waiting to be installed will fix the issue.
