It’s not normal. I just upgraded today from an XR and that phone never overheated like this in the 4 years I’ve had it. I’m taking this new one back to the store tomorrow.
Me too hard keeping the battery charged up. Tried to listen to Tina Turner on Utube just now. Phone got so hot l had to stop. Guess that’s not and approved app anymore. At least not for this iPhone 14pm😂
Same problem with my 14promax especially when I’m using the Camera app for a while or trying to edit videos on clips or iMovie or when watching 4K movies 💔
Ppl do you think I should return it?
One of the main reasons why your iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max is getting hot is because of the use of power-hungry apps. Certain apps use more resources than others, and this can cause the device to heat up. Apps that are known to be power-hungry include games, video streaming apps, and GPS navigation apps.
To Overcome this problem you can do the following
~ Close Power Hungry Apps
~ Update Your Phone to Latest Software
~ Disable Background refresh
~ Use an external fan or cooling device
~ Reduce screen brightness
~ Disable location services

l agree with you do not buy 14pm go with 13 and older or switch to android
100% disagree. I’m not using any apps that I didn’t already have, never had over heating before. Software is up to date, always is. Always had background refresh on, never had to reduce brightness before, always use find my location for find my phone which should always be on for obvious reasons, and no one should ever have to use an external fan or cooling device, never have had need before. So with that, this is an Apple problem not user problems.
Given that the vast majority of iPhone owners are not experiencing these issues, it has to be something occurring due to the combination of apps and screen brightness on your device.
If you feel it is an issue with your device, make an appointment to have it examined:

JBNV well said and thanks so much l feel the same way. It’s refreshing to be heard and understood and have your legitimate complaints validated kudos to you
Just so you know, this is one of many threads on this subject, there are other sites discussing this subject as well. In addition many experiencing this problem do not even post about this issue so there are more having this problem. So when you say the vast majority are not having this problem, I’m interested to know how you know this?
There are tens of millions of iPhone 14 owners, and those of us who have been here for quite a while know what it looks like when there is an issue that is even somewhat common… and this one is not.
But as always, the best advice is, if you think it's an issue with your particular device, make an appointment to have it examined:

If you think it's iOS, contact Apple Support directly:

I started with and iPhone 4. So been here just a little while myself. Never had and issue like this. So, you’re exactly right this isn’t normal behavior for iPhone. It will all come out in the end.
It doesn't need to "come out"; it won't be solved unless those experiencing it follow the advice I gave:

I and many, many people I know personally use their 14 Pro Max in this manner daily, and have no overheating or other issues; there's some additional factor that causes these issues for those experiencing it.
This phone was brand new only a few months back in Feb 2023. The maximum charge in battery health today on 6/26/23 is already at 96%….
Purchased this phone Feb 2023 my battery health today is 96%. Worse then my old 7plus at the end of its use. It’s disappointing and discouraging l still owe on this phone. I never had a apple product like this one
I also have this problem for the past week for no apparent reason. It’s killing my battery life!
