iPhone group messaging content sharing

After updating my iOS to 16, and then 16.0.2, I’m no longer able to share content (photos, news stories, etc.) to group chats (with all iOS users) via the “up arrow” share button. When I type in the name of a group chat nothing appears. I’m having to copy the content and manually paste it into a group chat, or open a group chat then search for a photo via the Photos app. Has anyone else run into this?

After updating to IOS 16, I also had this problem. The solution I found was to go to

Settings --> Siri and Search --> SUGGESTIONS FROM APPLE --> Show When Sharing

The 'Show When Sharing' is what shows that suggested list of frequent recipients that you share things with. In my case, even though the 'Show When Sharing' was On, it wasn't working. I turned it Off, then went back to try and share something, and of course, the list of frequent recipients was still not there.

Then I went back to Settings --> Siri and Search --> SUGGESTIONS FROM APPLE --> Show When Sharing and turned it back On, and then the list of frequent recipients appeared again. And I was again able to share to Messages Groups.

I hope this helps. It's interesting because I have two different iPhones (iPhone X and iPhone XR) and the XR did not have this problem after updating to IOS 16.

Hi kkinpdx,

Are you referring to sharing content using the steps below found in the guide here?: Send and receive content in Messages on iPhone

"Share content with others

To share photos and videos in the Messages app, paste a link into your message, or tap the Photos button to add photos and videos, then tap the Send button.

To share content from another app (for example Podcasts, News, or Music), select the content you want to share, tap the Share button, then choose Messages."

If so, you can ensure your iOS is fully updated with the steps here: Update your iPhone or iPad

You can also close the app and complete a normal restart of your iPhone.

Wow, thank you! Good to know that's where to find it in Settings. (It also only affected my iPhone 13, and my iPad Air 5 is no worse for wear after updating to 15.7. I actually inquired at the Apple Store last week and they told me it was a known bug that would be fixed in iOS 16.1. However, I just updated my phone and the update didn't solve the problem, and neither does toggling the Show When Sharing on and off as you suggested. Appreciate your help regardless!
