I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro. The hard drive crashed and was replaced with a 500Gb SSD. THe Macbook was upgraded to Catalina 10.15.7.. When I got it back from the shop, the CD/DVD drive as well a the card reader no longer works. Are these tools gone forever?

Take the laptop back and have them make things right (assuming they worked before the repair).

Seems the drivers may be missing. So,...
Reinstall the macOS:
Go Here: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support. Important: Be certain to create a backup of your Mac prior to all of this. That way, you can have something to restore from the Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. Once reinstalled, try this once more.
