What do you mean by connect?
You seem to have read the HomePod setup document before posting your query. It says that you need an iPhone or iPad to set up HomePod, but after that you can use the Home app on your Mac to change settings. You can also use AirPlay to stream audio to your HomePod from your Mac.
Apple has a full set of instructions about using HomePod in HomePod User Guide and HomePod - Official Apple Support
